The eternal leader Hafez Al- Assad , inaugurated

the first plant of the General Fertilizers Company

the nitrogen fertilizer plant

 on first May 1972 , the international labour day

 and delivered an important speech to read inter alia :

( I am pleased to have our celebrations today at this

place and to inaugurate the nitrogen fertilizer plant

 on the site of which we are standing

 for the construction of which

our workers and our engineers exerted great efforts .

Thanks to our engineers and thanks

to the foreign experts who have

 contributed to the construction of this plant . )

Through sound planning we have managed under

 most critical circumstances to go ahead

with economic development and

 to realize great  achievements in its domain .

Introduction :

Late in the 1960 s the industry Chemical Fertilizers began

in the Syria Arab Republic with the production of

ammonium nitrate fertilizer

 concentration 26% , in 1972 , design capacity 140.000 tons a year .

Syria did not stop short of this end .

But Syria intended to deepen the march of this

 industry by producing different kinds of

fertilizers and to go ahead towards the horizons

 to cover the local market and to export fertilizers in the future .

Historical review :

G.F.C lies on the bank of Qattineh lake in Homs city .

The General Fertilizers Company was founded in 1967 for

the production of nitrogen fertilizer in the first production in 1972 .

In 1975 , a decree promulgated to name the company

as the General Fertilizers Company .

The company has witnessed expansion and the

construction of new plants over the past years .

The construction of tow new plants was over at the end of 1970 s fo

r the production of urea fertilizer and super phosphate fertilizer .

The company has three plants and is at present

the largest chemical industry complex in the

 Syria Arab Republic for the production of fertilizers

 liquid ammonia , sulphuric acid , phosphoric acid and other products .
